Clint Eastwood, Hollywood-Legende sowohl vor ("Dirty Harry") als auch hinter der Kamera ("Erbarmungslos"), begeisterte sich Zeit seines Lebens für den Piano-Blues. Seine Dokumentation gleicht einer wahren Fundgrube rarer Interviews und Liveauftritte: Konzertmitschnitte von Ikonen wie Ray Charles, Dr. John, Marcia Ball, Pinetop Perkins, Dave Brubeck und Jay McShann; dazu seltenes Archivmaterial von Nat 'King' Cole, Fats Domino, Otis Spann und Duke Ellington.
Unter der Ägide von Martin Scorsese, gerade selbst mit "Shine a Light" musikdokumentarisch aktiv, erforschen sieben prominente Filmemacher wie Mike Figgis oder Wim Wenders die Ursprünge des Blues. Clint Eastwoods Beitrag vereint alte Fundstücke und neue Interpretationen.
